While the brand traces its history back to 1753, when it was based in Pennsylvania, the distillery had been mothballed for several years by the time Magliocco acquired the trademark in the mid-1990s. He moved the brand to Kentucky and began sourcing barrels for bottling under the Michter’s name. Several years later, Michter’s began producing its own whiskey at other distilleries. The youngest whiskeys in Celebration date to just before Michter’s own distillery opened in Shively, Kentucky.
