Lalocura San Martinero — Eduardo Ángeles
A beautiful small-production agave spirit from Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca, crafted by celebrated mezcalero Eduardo Javier Ángeles Carreño of Lalocura.
This expression is produced from San Martinero (Agave karwinskii) using the ancestral methods for which Eduardo Ángeles is known. The agave is roasted in a pre-Hispanic-style underground oven, then double distilled in traditional clay pots. The final proof is adjusted using puntas & colas, preserving the spirit’s natural character rather than simply diluting it with water.
Bottled at 48.9% ABV (97.8 proof), San Martinero typically delivers a fascinating combination of roasted agave, green herbs, earth, mineral notes, citrus and pepper, with subtle vegetal sweetness and the distinctive earthy character associated with clay-pot distillation. The finish is long, dry and complex, with lingering agave, minerality and spice.
